I am a storyteller. I look for magic in the people around me — a magic infused with humor and absurdity. Focusing on peculiarities of character, I distill and distort my subjects into fictionalized versions of themselves. To assist in this process, I alternate between observation and memory, exploring a variety of media, from drawing and painting to computer imaging, print and embroidery. By revisiting the same subject in different formats, I strive to create an evolving world that exists beyond each individual portrait, a world from within which the artworks seem to surface as artifacts.
