A continuation of Sam Bland’s “Fly Trap” studies that explore the pitfalls of popular culture, “Dip-Set Super Swamper” is a visual, sociological dissection of two cultures: a sub hip-hop culture known as Dip-Set and the rural subculture of monster trucks.

On the outset, the subcultures appear to be two divergent perspectives. However, on deeper observation and dissection, they aren’t as dissimilar as they seem. In his work, Sam draws the visual lines that connect the two perspectives.

Sam’s work consists of an amalgamation of xerography, graphic design, and graffiti that draw you into his cultural observations. Through the use of mediums that are as overtly divergent - on the surface - as the cultures he studies, Sam is able to skillfully take his viewers past their hidden assumptions and cultural biases toward a better understanding of the commonality within the human condition.
