Elaine F. Longtemps

The color in The color in "No One Is Listening", all greens and blues, symbolic of nature, seemingly calm and peaceful,is highly symbolic; there are black ropes, symbolic of plants and and nature turning black and dying from unseen contamination surfacing from underground, signs that something is very, very wrong here; but no one is listening. "No One Is Listening" was part of the exhibition "Bend,Fold,Manipulate - 20 Artists Stitch For Peace" in Ontario, Canada.

My work is made up of individually, hand-painted fibers, cords, and ropes; glued, and then twisted under tremendous tension until the force of the stress causes the rope to take on a life of its own, like the vines in a garden. I see the painted ropes as colored lines in space building up to a massive shape. Much of my work contains words and stories.
