Christy L Powers

I began this series while living abroad; where I realized that a shoebox of Polaroid’s, taken since age 14,were the only clues to my American life. These paintings explore how we construct and edit our lives through photography.
The work is a broken narrative of people and places, an exploration of the fluidity of memory. The negative space in each piece represents what has been forgotten, what remains outside the camera’s lense. As watercolor cannot fix onto Denril, this fragility serves as reminder of how easily memories can be irrevocably lost.
