The inspiration for photographer Eric Bessel’s work can be summarized as “The three C’s: Cancer, Car Accidents, and Connecticut." Eric grew up in Northern Connecticut, and major themes in his work are death and sickness, familial relationships, and intimacy.

Simultaneously creating and relinquishing control, Eric methodically stages scenes and then allows his characters to bring their own spontaneous and unique affects to image. It is important for Eric, who prefers to let the photographs [and not himself] speak, that the viewer create his or her own personal, meaningful interpretation of the works.

A recent project, entitled "wiltless: truth & deception," involved interviews with online daters, a series of prints, Life is really too short for games so i am honest with people, and a published brochure of essays.

Educated at Syracuse University and the School of Visual Arts, Eric currently lives and works in Brooklyn. He has exhibited in numerous group shows in New York City, Syracuse, Boston, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.

"Wiltless: truth & deception" was a solo exhibition at the E3 Gallery in New York City. Collections containing his work include Artists Space in New York, the Dam, Stuhltraeger Gallery in Brooklyn, and the Museum of the City of New York.
