My work is based on the intuitive manipulation of materials to represent meaning about the people and places I know. I combine drawing, painting, photography, collage and sequences worked through the computer and printed digitally, in large format.
The image "Her Habitat" consists of a pair of pyramids - the profile of a woman and female cardinal like the visual pyramid of the camera obscura or the diagrammed light behaviour through a pinhole, alluding to the reality that the lens of our vision turns what we see upside down and after our brain turns it right side up. This image is doubled as all images, the real and the seen, conveying a swarm of historical memory tying the science of seeing and creating image to expression and our need of balance. The illusion that we know how to integrate our knowledge and remain balanced, even survive is in question. The woman-bird is represented like a contemporary goddess symbol, removing and sustaining her bond as an individual and at the same moment as a symbol of animal and human life.
