Rodolfo Edwards

Press Release: LANDSCAPES Cities in Construction: Series of Painting in mixed media . From a Universe where the constant urban transformation traces temporary lines which allude to the metropolitan mutability; Rodolfo Edwards, visual artist, presents a series of paintings which references the architectural space of the contemporary world. In the Series “Landscape”, formed by diptics and large format paintings, the artist insists in different aerial points of view, As if the city spectacle could only be enjoyed from up there, in other words, a far vision of monotony represented In the architectural plane or a construction project. Just as Michael Wesley would have done using Photography in German Cities, in his paintings, Edwards fusses space and time through layers which resemble cubism because of its aesthetics. The tension and movement, which coexist in Landscape, discard the possibility of a unique point Of view of Perspective as the core of a stable architectural universe. This way, the artist insists in the fusion of traces in time from a new operation in its path; the Plank. Such decision, being both aesthetic and narrative, is utilized by Edwards as another strategy for the union of two fragments That get elevated and then lie in the metropolitan field. Finally, Rodolfo Edwards invites us to understand the city as a body, as an organic element subject to change in time, Since its philosophy is constantly reconstructed opening the possibility of infinite visual and discursive results. Artist Statement:
The complexity of the modern cities with its combination of forms, spaces, places, individuals, times and histories becomes challenging for human understanding and a clear stimulus to create new ways of representation which, from a parallel perspective from those coming from the urbanite disciplines, try to explain, to capture the intensity of life and death in the human beehive with its permanent buzzing.

Time and space, the intuition of the human shapes and their constant and temporary actions are gathered in my works: artifacts, modified pictures and paintings all of which constitute an artistic corpus with its own identity and incisive view.

The citizen with its own share of violence and frailty is the obvious antagonist of the rousseaunean man living in state of nature. This contradiction is reflected through the use of shapes, colors, textures and the sophisticated precariousness of his works. The city, its construction is what it is, but simultaneously, much less than that, appearing as frail and mysterious, an unsuccessful intent, an act of order and confusion.
I had pictured the citizen and the urban space, as two live entities subject to a generative and degenerative process of birth, development and twilight.

As an artist and architect, i dont want to avoid the complex urban structure and the need of its understanding. Highways, architecture, cultural trends are all elements that create the urban dynamics, constantly interacting, creating relationships that give place to organic, harmonious and unique realities.
