Jocelyn Alter is an emerging choreographer, dancer and book artist. In 2007, Jocelyn graduated from SUNY Brockport, where she had the privilege of studying under Bill Evans, Jacquie Davis, Maura Keefe, Mariah Maloney, Juanita Suarez and James Hansen. In 2006, Jocelyn had the pleasure of studying in Cortona, Italy. While visiting ruin after ruin and gawking at seven hundred year-old Catholic saints, she found herself saturated with history and invigorated by the prospect of creating records of experience. In early 2008, she founded Jostle, a Queens-based collaborative dance company. Jocelyn’s work has been presented throughout New York City and the northeast. In September, Jostle premiered Engrain, the company’s first evening-length work funded in part through the Queens Council on the Arts. Jostle was recently chosen as a pilot participant of LEAP, a professional development program for emerging Queens dance artists. Jocelyn recently moved to Brooklyn and is excited about learning more about the borough's exciting artist community.
