Moving Theater brings together independent, innovative artists from dance, theater, music, architecture, film, and the visual arts to collaborate on deliberately discipline-defying, frontier-crossing projects.
Based in Brooklyn, New York, the ensemble was founded by Brennan Gerard and Ryan Kelly in 2002 to support experiments in new performance.
Moving Theater has performed in theaters, galleries, factories, artists' squats and other nontraditional spaces throughout New York City, as well as in Paris, Chicago, Boston, Montreal, the Greenwich Music Festival and the Jacob's Pillow International Dance Festival. Moving Theater has completed residencies at the Watermill Center, The Old American Can Factory, and the Morriss Center Dance Institute. Their work has been supported by the American Friends of the Paris Opera & Ballet, Cowles Charitable Trust, Jerome Robbins Foundation, Bossak-Heilbron Charitable Foundation, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts.
