Higher Levin is a not-for-profit youth organization based in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn New York. Founded by Tichard Chapman in 2006, its goal is to provide youths with an alternative to street life, whilst providing cultural enrichment and appreciation of various aspects of the performing arts. Some of the art forms being targeted include but are not limited to, dance, drama and musical instruments.
Servicing youths in the East Flatbush and Canarsie sections of Brooklyn, our program consists of children who attend or have attended Meyer Levin Intermediate School and have completed at least one year in the performing arts program. It is designed to be a continuation program for those children interested in pursuing a career in the performing arts. All participants enjoy quality instruction from professionals in various fields of the arts and are encouraged to become professionals in their respective field of study. Our motto “Education through Experience” is evident in that the young adults of the program also serve as role models to the younger children. Members are encouraged to assist in the instruction here at Higher Levin, hence transferring their experiences to those being educated. We have adapted an “each one teach one” policy that works well with our children.
