B.E.A. (Brooklyn Emerging Artists) Rock Camp is a week long mixed genre music camp for boys and girls from ages 8-15 that focuses on empowering youth through music and community-building based on shared musical expression. Rock Camp's mission is to provide creative, artistic and musical opportunities for boys and girls in New York City, with an emphasis on the freedom and spirit of rock and roll as it relates to other genres of music ranging from bluegrass to hip hop to chamber pop. BEA Rock Camp offers boys and girls the opportunity to learn, appreciate and play their own music through beginning to advanced instruction in instruments both traditionally found in rock and roll bands such as guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals, and those generally expected in other music genres, such as turn tables, horns, and stringed instruments. Campers will also take part in workshops on topics related to rock and roll and various other music genres, including songwriting, recording, zine making, music history, and screenprinting. Campers will form their own bands in which they will collaborate on one song that they will have the opportunity to perform at the Saturday night showcase. Rock Camp is designed not only to offer musical opportunities that may not be offered elsewhere, but to allow for freedom of expression and exploration in the art of music and performance, and in so doing, to empower campers to find their own voice, their own sound, and their own beat, without boundary or inhibition.

B.E.A. Rock Camp is a project of Brooklyn Emerging Artists, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under the Department of Arts Programming at Greenpoint Reformed Church.
