Brooklyn-based new music ensemble TWO SIDES SOUNDING presents innovative contemporary song programs with roots in the classical salon tradition, creating “a lush garden of musical abundance.” (cvneweng.org) Founded in 2005 by soprano Eleanor Taylor and pianist Jocelyn Dueck, the ensemble features outstanding artists performing the music of living composers, including mezzo-soprano Hai-Ting Chinn, baritone Daniel Neer, and pianists Mila Henry, Erika Switzer and Miori Sugiyama. TSS concerts have been presented by Queens New Music Festival, Nautilus Music Theater, The Schubert Club, The Phoenix Concerts, Brooklyn New Music Collective and Friends and Enemies of New Music. The group has appeared in New York City at VIM: Tribeca, South Oxford Space, Tenri Cultural Institute, Greenwich House Music School, Saint Peter’s Church, the NY Public Library, Cornelia Street Café, Caffe Vivaldi and Marion’s Lounge. Two Sides Sounding has premiered works by Eve Beglarian, Corey Dargel, Louis Durey, Edward Ficklin, Christopher Gable, Edie Hill, Gilda Lyons, Eric Moe, Rachel Peters, Kala Pierson, Sam Piperato, Michael Rose, Kamala Sankaram, Daniel Sonenberg and Aleksandra Vrebalov. A not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization, TSS supports composers in the creation of new work for voice and piano. Strongly committed to educational activities, Two Sides Sounding has given masterclasses for students at the University of Southern Maine, the University of Minnesota and Macalester College, and has won grant awards from the Brooklyn Arts Council, Meet the Composer and the American Composers Forum.
