The Pack is a female-led collective of theatre artists and designers in Brooklyn, NY, dedicated to making work that is daring, investigative, playful, and socially relevant. Co-Artistic Directors Jenny Reed and Sam Sheppard commission new plays by female and femme playwrights through an innovative and highly collaborative development process, in which performers are cast and designers are assembled for collective sharing, improvising, engagement, and consultation both prior to and alongside script development.
The Pack's development structure intentionally creates opportunities for more diversity in storytelling. By making theater with and for new and varied voices, the collective hopes to carve out space for passionate writers, performers, and designers who are often underrepresented onstage and behind the scenes, in positions of leadership. The Pack's plays center the voices, experiences, imaginings, and bodies of female-identified, trans and nonbinary artists, queer artists, and artists invested in social practice.
The Pack is a recipient of a 2018 Community Arts Grant for the upcoming Sex Play (working title), a new project in collaboration with playwright Charly Evon Simpson. Sex Play explores modern sexuality through the frames of sexual liberation, consent culture, fantasy exploration, and the nature of human desire.
