The Owl's Head Park Horticulture Group was established in 2011. The group is part of the Shore Road Parks Conservancy. We proudly serve Owl’s Head Park and the communities of Bay Ridge and Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, New York. We have been instrumental in providing the community with physical fitness classes, educational programs, arts & crafts workshops, live performances, and greening efforts that include designing gardens, plantings, and installing cribbing logs to maintain park grounds.
The group has honed a comprehensive advocacy effort which reaches out to Partnerships for Parks, Community Board 10, NYC Parks and Recreation Department, local elected officials, and our local media outlets. We have worked with members of AmeriCorp, Bay Ridge Cares, Art on the Corner, Narrows Community Theater, Bay Ridge Arts and Cultural Alliance (BRACA), and the Guild for Exceptional Children. Some of our volunteers have come from the Boys and Girls Scouts of America, Xaverian High School, Fontbonne Academy, Fort Hamilton High School, PS 102, and PS/IS 30.
Over the years, the group has campaigned and worked to maintain the park’s natural terrain and picturesque landscape by creating several new garden beds, establishing cribbing logs to control soil erosion, and planting new groves of trees and shrubbery. The group endeavors to collaborate with community organizations in a concerted effort to improve the park's aesthetics and to provide free shows and cultural activities for visitors.
