NYSCA is the only BAC Regrant program that requires individual applicants to have a fiscal sponsor; therefore the information on this page is geared toward finding and working with a NYSCA fiscal sponsor.
How do I find a fiscal sponsor?
A good way to begin looking for a fiscal sponsor is to speak with organizations in your neighborhood or the neighborhood where your project will take place. Another approach would be to look for Brooklyn organizations that work in your areas of interest who might be interested in your work (for example, an environmentalist nonprofit might like to sponsor an art project about the environment).
The BAC Directory of Arts Organizations is a good resource for researching local arts organizations.
Another good resource can be found on the Brooklyn Public Library website ; select the local library branch in the neighborhood in which you’re seeking a sponsor, then select ‘Community Directory’. This list includes many non-arts organizations that may be able to serve as a NYSCA sponsor, including community boards, neighborhood associations, civic centers, senior centers, park organizations, private schools, houses of worship, etc.
If you are having trouble finding a fiscal sponsor for your NYSCA application, contact the Regrant Department at 718.625.0080 or regrant@brooklynartscouncil.org
When you are ready to reach out to a potential fiscal sponsor, you can use the following letter to approach them. This download is two pages—the first is a cover letter from the Regrant Department explaining fiscal sponsorship; the second is a detailed list of what the sponsor organization needs to know before agreeing to be your sponsor, including a list of the documents you’ll need from them to put with your application.
You will need a signed letter of agreement with your fiscal sponsor to include in your application (also keep a copy for your records). The download below is a simple template of an agreement letter that you and your sponsor may edit as needed. The letter should be on your fiscal sponsor’s letterhead and signed by a representative of their organization.
You will also need some basic information from your fiscal sponsor to answer questions in your online application. You can give the following one-page questionnaire to your fiscal sponsor to get all the information you’ll need.
