All BAC Community Art Grants funding decisions are made by panels selected by BAC. Our panelists bring their artistic expertise, knowledge of Brooklyns neighborhoods, and understanding of community arts administration to the review process.
So that applicants are reviewed as fairly and impartially as possible, BAC strives to create panels that are balanced by ethnicity, gender, age, and artistic style. Each panelist can be asked to return for up to three consecutive years; approximately one half of panelists are alternated each year to allow for a variety of viewpoints.

Panelists evaluate grant applications and recommend support based on the following criteria:
Quality and artistic merit of the proposed project
Clarity of project description, intended outcome and projected audience
Project feasibility and soundness of project budget
Clarity and feasibility of proposed outreach and marketing plans
Community benefit generated by the project
Accessibility to the public
Number of people the project will serve
One of the chief priorities of the Community Art Grants program is to provide arts and cultural to communities in Brooklyn that are currently underserved by arts programming.
The Artist-Community Collaboration award has the additional funding criteria that the project must be new work, and must involve the Brooklyn community in the artist's creative process.
