Dance in the Neighborhood: Sunset Park by Day

Dance and eat your way through Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Part of Folk Feet on Fifth, this tour highlights cultural communities and social life along 5th Avenue through the neighborhood’s dance traditions. Learn and watch social dances with dance masters at neighborhood places, sample food traditional to local cultural communities, and enjoy a full meal at a popular restaurant at the conclusion of the tour.

Sunset Park by Day includes the following:
  • an Afro-Dominican processional dance demo
  • a stop at La Salsa de Hoy
  • a bite at longstanding Cuban bakery, La Gran Via
  • an intro to Chinese lion dance with artists from Brooklyn Chinese American Association and a sample of Chinese dim sum on 8th Avenue
  • a Mexican cumbia lesson with members of Ballet Folklorico Queztalcoatl and a typical mexican “comida” at the Los Tres Potrillos restaurant (4th and 39th) with owner Manuel Velazquez. The lunch includes a mix of appetizers (tacos, tostadas, sopes and main dishes such as pozole, enchiladas en mole, or pollo mole poblano.
Meeting place will be announced once registered.

$15 (includes full tour and late lunch). Limited to 15 participants.
