Submission Guidelines / Form

September 11th Memorial Sing

  • Only one song per person may be submitted. Generally, the song will be written by the person submitting although he or she may, for example, be the lyricist with someone else composing.
  • All songs submitted must be original compositions. NO covers.
  • Hard copies of songs must be submitted on CD or cassette tape. An MP3 file can also be e-mailed to folkarts@brooklynartscouncil.org as a back-up.
  • A TYPED copy of lyrics (including at the top LEFT: Title of song, name of songwriter, address, phone, e-mail and date (or approximate date) of composition must be included. CREDIT APPROPRIATELY ALL WRITERS OF THE SONG. Lyrics, music and arrangement are generally credited separately. If you have a publishing company, record label, website, etc. PLEASE provide this information as well.


Deadline: August 28th, 2009.

NOTE: To prevent the trials and tribs of elaborate staging and sound production, PERFORMANCES ARE LIMITED TO A SINGLE Singer accompanied by a SINGLE portably-amped instrument such as a guitar. BAC will provide a 4-channel PA and a small amp.

ALL applicants must download, print, fill out and mail the application form below.

If you do not wish to be considered for the live performance aspect of this project, you may submit registration, permission, and hard copy of your song for archival purposes only up until September 15th, 2009.

There is no registration fee for participation in September 11th Memorial Sing, nor is there any monetary compensation to the artist(s) for participating in any aspect of this project. We thank you for contributing your artistry to this musical act of memorialization.
