Film Festival Intern

Brooklyn Arts Council seeks an intern to help produce and program the 2010 Women of African Descent Film Festival. The festival is a partnership between Brooklyn Arts Council and The Brooklyn Chapter of the Links, Inc. (www.linksinc.org), and seeks to promote and celebrate films by women of African Descent. The festival is now in its ninth year, and will take place at the Spike Lee Screening Room at LIU in Brooklyn this May.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in film and events production
  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Candidates with interest in and/or knowledge of films by women of African descent will be preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Announce call for entries for film festival via Without a Box online service
  • Log and track film submissions
  • Pre-screen all film submissions and make recommendations for screening committee
  • Promote call for entries via press and online promotions
  • Invite additional entries through outreach to other film festivals, industry groups and direct filmmaker invitation
  • Help organize screening committee meeting where films for festival are selected
  • Obtain and organize film information, and help create festival program
  • Work with screening venue to produce the event
  • Attend festival, assist with set up, check in, running the films, assisting audience members and attending filmmakers
  • Assist with other BAC film events as needed, including the Scene: Brooklyn screening series

Interns will gain hands on experience in the festival programming process, will learn the specifics of how a film event is produced and will have the opportunity to network with filmmakers.
The internship will begin in October and continue through the festival in May 2010. It will require approximately 6- 8 hours of work per week at BACs office in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
