Jazz guitarist David O'Rourke has performed with jazz legends such as Tommy Flanagan, Cedar Walton, Jackie McLean, and George Benson, and his arranging work has seen him conduct orchestras in Prague and Dublin, as well as here in the USA. At Alive With Art, David will be joined by some of New York's finest jazz talent as he performs a potpourri of jazz repertory, including selections from the Great American Songbook, the blues, Brazilian Bossa Novas, and famous jazz composers.

The Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra, a fiscally sponsored project of Brooklyn Arts Council, features young musicians ranging in age from 11 to 17 drawn from the five boroughs of New York City as well as New Jersey. Each season, these young musicians are exposed to big band and small group jazz repertory, with an emphasis on performance opportunity?all too rare for this age group. The high performance level achieved by these youngsters is living proof of what young people can accomplish when they are provided with the opportunity to develop their craft in front of an audience. The JSYO has become a terrific supplement to the children's own studies, both at school and privately, while it prepares them for entry to conservatories and colleges.
