UPCOMING EVENTS

March 3 & 4, 2012: Arts in Bushwick presents SITE Fest, a two-day interdisciplinary event highlighting the diversity of performance in Bushwick. Encompassing and blending a variety of forms including theater, dance and music, SITE investigates our neighborhood as an unfolding collaborative performance enacted in urban space. SITE arose in response to the amazing outpouring Arts in Bushwick receives every year for BETA Spaces and Open Studios, giving performance artists the opportunity to display work in a collaborative environment. SITE focuses around curated hub spaces, which are organized and run by Arts in Bushwick. Performances also take place in a variety of satellite spaces (apartments, studios, street corners, galleries, etc.). Satellite space events are produced and managed by independent curators. SITE Fest is a featured Brooklyn event of Armory Arts Week. (BK Art Lovers waive $5 admission per ticket)

June 1-3, 2012: Arts in Bushwick presents Bushwick Open Studios, a self-organized, collaborative festival produced by Arts in Bushwick, an all-volunteer community organization. Now in its sixth year, Bushwick Open Studios is an exciting opportunity for artists to experiment outside the standard context of sales and space competition. In addition, it provides a space for artists and community members to come together to collaboratively produce an event that showcases a wide range of what their neighborhood has to offer. (BK Art Lovers receive free VIP admission to Opening Night Party)

June 21-23, 2012: Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre presents: 12th Annual Performance Season, the world premiere of Invert, an evening-length dance theatre work exploring shifting perspectives of space, size, and time. The piece will bring to question the human instinct to quantify and measure -- our lives, bodies, accomplishments, status, wealth, even our compassion and generosity. The dance will subvert expectations; just as momentum builds onstage, the energetic moment will shrink. Likewise, just as something appears small, it will grow to feel massive, vast, and timeless. With Selwyn's fresh and vibrant movement language of extended limbs, physical risk, athleticism, gesture, energy, release, touch, and balance, she will activate emotional expression to resonate meaning for a range of audiences.
