Bend the Arc has a history of focusing grants and loans in low income communities that are disproportionately affected when disaster strikes.

BROOKLYN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Brooklyn Community Foundation has launched a Brooklyn Recovery Fund in coordination with the Brooklyn Borough President's Office and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. The fund will support the Brooklyn communities and organizations impacted by Hurricane Sandy and provide direct support for needs identified by local Brooklyn nonprofit service providers, the small business community, and borough civic institutions.

BROOKLYN SANDY RELIEF LEGAL CLINIC

The Brooklyn Sandy Relief Legal Clinic will be staffed by disaster relief-trained law students and volunteer attorneys, who will offer storm-related legal and application assistance with regard to insurance claims; FEMA applications and appeals; public assistance; and housing.

CERF CRAFT EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND

CERF provides emergency funds for emerging and professional craft artists who are U.S. residents.

DISASTER UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE

If you live or work in Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk or Westchester counties and you lost your income due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, you may qualify for DUA.

FEMA

FEMA funds a number of assistance programs including rental payments for temporary housing for those whose homes are unlivable; grants for home repairs and replacement of essential household items; and unemployment payments up to 26 weeks for workers who temporarily lost jobs because of the disaster.

JOAN MITCHELL FOUNDATION

Emergency funds for artists working in the mediums of painting, sculpture and drawing that were affected by natural or manmade disasters that affected a community.

LAWYERS ALLIANCE OF NEW YORK

Lawyers Alliance helps nonprofits provide critical social services and emergency funds to people affected by terrorism, natural disasters, and other tragedies.

LESTER PETRILLO MEMORIAL FUND FOR DISABLED MUSICIANS

Grants are given out to temporarily or permanently disabled musicians who are members of the American Federation of Musicians.

MISTER ARTSEE

Mister ArtSee, the nation's mobile art laboratory, and the ART© group have set up an emergency relief fund for artists and art professionals who have suffered losses due to hurricane Sandy. 100% of all funds will go directly to companies and artists affected by the storm.

MUSICARES FOUNDATION

MusiCares offers emergency financial aid to eligible music-industry professionals including performers, producers, engineers and songwriters. To be eligible you must have 5 years employment minimum in the music industry.

NONPROFIT COORDINATING COMMITTEE OF NEW YORK

To help nonprofits affected by the Hurricane Sandy, NPCC has set up a page to let nonprofits know about office resources available.

NYC OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

The New York City Office of Emergency Management coordinates emergency response and recovery, and collects and disseminates emergency information.

NEW YORK FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS (NYFA)

NYFA compiled a list of resources for artists and arts organizations affected by Hurricane Sandy.

NYS DIVISION OF EMERGENCY SERVICES

The New York State DHSES provides leadership and support for efforts to respond to, and recover from, natural disasters and other emergencies.

NORTH STAR FUND

The North Star Fund is announced a Grassroots Hurricane Relief Fund to help the most vulnerable residents and communities in our region recover. If you wish to apply for funds or know any grassroots arts organizations that might please visit their website.

SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

In the event of a national disaster, after residents and businesses are registered with FEMA, they may apply for a disaster loan.

SOCIETY OF SINGERS

SOS provides emergency charitable grants for food, shelter, utilities, medical assistance, HIV/AIDs treatment, substance abuse treatment, psychotherapy and other basic necessities.
