2013 Call for Film Submissions

Scene: Brooklyn: Independent Film and Media Arts presented by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) seeks short and feature length narrative films, short and feature length documentaries, animations and experimental work from Brooklyn-based filmmakers and artists for its screening series taking place in October 2013.

Scene: Brooklyn gives local filmmakers a chance to have their work seen in professional venues by New York audiences in curated film programs. Screening venues have included BAMcinématek, UnionDocs, Galapagos Art Space and The Bell House. These and other sites are being considered for our fall 2013 series. Scene: Brooklyn includes prizes for Audience Award winners, as well as panel discussions and parties.

BAC seeks all feature length and short narrative, documentary and experimental film and video work shot in the borough of Brooklyn, relating to the experience of life in Brooklyn, or films that have been created entirely or partially by Brooklyn-based artists. The submission period begins on Withoutabox on March 1, 2013.

This year, BAC will be dedicating the series to the anniversary of Superstorm Sandy and will be giving preference to films by Brooklyn filmmakers or films primarily shot in the borough with relevant themes that may include but are not limited to the storm’s destruction, the rebuilding and the resilience of our people, direct responses to Sandy, films inspired by Sandy, community responses to the storm, climate change, waterfront development, disaster relief and issues of equity and the role of Government as it relates to natural disasters like Superstorm Sandy.

Professional and amateur filmmakers working in all aesthetic disciplines and genres including narrative, documentary, animation and experimental filmmaking are welcome to submit.
