Nicole Macotsis, Folk Arts Associate

As Folk Arts Associate, Nicole primarily manages the expansion and development of Folk Feet, a fieldwork driven documentation and presentation project on traditional dance in Brooklyn. Project manager for Folk Feet Workshops, she conducts outreach, coordinates on-site programming and is developing a roster of Brooklyn-based traditional dance teachers. She is significantly involved in fieldwork and documentation for the upcoming Brooklyn Maqam: Arab Music Festival. In Summer 2006 hiatus from BAC, Macotsis coordinated the production of “Nuestra Musica: Chicago Latino” program for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2006. She came to BAC from UNESCO’s Culture and Development Section where she researched and wrote contextual background documents for the development of national cultural policies. Macotsis graduated from Wesleyan University (CT) with high honors in Cultural Anthropology and completed a Masters level degree at IEP (Sciences-Po’) Paris in International Development.

Complementary to her work at BAC, Nicole performs Egyptian dance (Raqs Sharqi), and is fan of Dominican Karaoke and $7 buffets.
