SPARC 2014

1:30 pm - 3 pm

Senior artists at JASA Scheuer House of Coney Island Senior Center have been working with SPARC artist Jennifer Wade to create ceramic tiles and compose a tile mural. Join us for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the new mural!

The wall the mural will be installed on is directly next to the wall that was knocked down during Hurricane Sandy, and this event will celebrate not only the artists' creativity, but also their resilience and spirit in rebuilding their community following the destruction. There will be a musical performance followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony.

This ceramic tile mural is a project of the Seniors Partnering with Artists Citywide (SPARC) program at JASA Scheuer House, led by artist Jennifer Wade.

SPARC is one of many creative aging programs for seniors administered by Brooklyn Arts Council as part of our Arts in Education program.

SPARC is a collaboration among the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), the Department for the Aging (DFTA) and the City's five local arts councils situated in each borough – Brooklyn Arts Council, Bronx Council on the Arts, Staten Island Arts, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and Queens Council on the Arts. It was developed as part of Age-Friendly NYC, a citywide effort to make the City more livable for seniors, and previously ran in 2012 and 2013.  The 2014 SPARC program is supported, in part, by public funds from the Department for the Aging.

Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) is proud to be part of this program on behalf of the borough of Brooklyn.
