Dance and music from the Arab world: Simon Shaheen, world renowned, Brooklyn-based violinist and oudist. Folk Feet Arab Traditional Dance Showcase: Egyptian zeffa, saidi and tannoura, Levantine debkah, Yemeni bara’a, Moroccan gnawa, and more.
Throughout March 2008, BAC will present the Brooklyn Maqam Arab Music Festival, a groundbreaking celebration of Arab musical traditions in Brooklyn. In a series of concerts, symposia and workshops throughout the month, Brooklyn Maqam will feature nearly 100 New York-based musicians and groups representing musical traditions from Egypt, Yemen, Palestine, Iraq, Israel, Morocco, Syria and Lebanon in venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn, such as Alwan for the Arts, BAM Café, Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College (BCBC), Joe’s Pub, and more.
