Learn how Brooklyn Arts Council communicates --from the initial stage of working with our programming team and graphic designers to create a visual identity for a project to crafting press pitches, updating our website, initiating partnerships with local organizations and events to pitching story ideas to local magazines and newspapers.
College juniors and older, with an interest in one or more of the following are encouraged to apply: marketing, public relations, graphic design, web technology and the arts. The Communications Intern will assist in organizing publicity for individual projects such as disseminating press-releases, listings information, and correspondence; conducting research on media outlets; maintaining the press database; archiving both media coverage and visual documentation of all programs; and updating the website and monitoring website traffic, as needed.
Internships can be tailored to the student’s individual’s skills and interests. There will also be opportunities for self-initiated in-depth projects relating to department needs.
Candidates must be extremely detail-oriented and have excellent writing and research skills, a background in the arts, the nonprofit sector, and/or marketing/communications. Proficiency in HTML, XHTML, CSS, Flash, In Design and Photoshop preferred.
This is an unpaid internship. To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, and two references via email to Sara DeRose, sderose@brooklynartscouncil.org
