2008 Film Festival

April 29 - May 9, 2008

A young Sudanese woman recounts her long and arduous journey through the Negev Desert and across the Israeli border. A South Vietnamese soldier is reunited with the brother he fought against decades earlier. A female rapper in Morocco takes the stage amidst a chorus of boos that quickly become cheers once she begins performing her tight, skillful rhymes. This is merely a sample of the arresting images and powerful stories that comprise the 42nd Brooklyn Arts Council International Film Festival. This year we screen work from five continents, including five feature narratives, five feature documentaries, and over seventy short films. We?re also excited to offer a screenwriting workshop, an experimental film screening and panel discussion as well as, New Media Installations, a group exhibition of experimental film and video works in our gallery space. Check out the schedule of screenings to find times, dates, and locations, and to read about the films included in this year's festival. Mark your calendars and we'll see you at one - or all - of our many screenings and events!
