Brooklyn’s Arab World Dance Traditions: Dance Workshops and Q&A

Learn three dance forms as practiced and performed in Brooklyn’s Arab communities. Egyptian-born performer Yasser Darwish, teaches and demonstrates Egyptian saidi stick dance from Upper Egypt with live musical accompaniment of tabla and accordion. Brooklyn-born Palestinian debkah expert Linda Sarsour teaches Lebanese style debkah line dance from the Levant region with live percussion on tabl beladi. Sudani dancer, activist and actress, Tamadoor Gibreel, teaches traditional Sudanese dance, assisted by Brooklyn-based vocalist and dancer, Alsarah and with live drumming. Each class is followed by a brief talk-back with dance teachers and musicians.
