CERAMICS
Ceramics workshops range from basic instruction with self-hardening clay to more advanced glazing techniques of works that require kiln firing (school must have a kiln).
DRAWING/PAINTING/COLLAGE/PRINTMAKING
These workshops can guide students through traditional themes and mediums such as still life drawing and printmaking, and/or introduce students to experimental and interactive modes of contemporary art.
FABRIC ARTS
Students learn various fabric arts techniques. From quilt making to costume design to crocheting, fabric arts invite collaboration, cultural exploration, and life skills development.
FOLK ARTS
Our folk arts programs are run by artists who come from diverse and culturally rich backgrounds. Students learn about different cultures and traditions through art projects like making masks, instruments, and/or crafts.
MIXED MEDIA
Work that combines various visual art mediums allows for heightened flexibility with a multitude of projects, including 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional collage or large scale assemblages.
PHOTOGRAPHY
This art form is one that most dabble in throughout their lives. Introductory classes on how to handle a camera properly and how elements like exposure time, light, and composition affect a photograph to theoretical explorations of the great photographers of our time and what it takes to emulate them, are within the range of possibility.
PUBLICATIONS
Students compose their own poetry or prose and then illustrate their work with collage, drawings, paintings, or prints. They assemble their work in any variety of formats, from traditionally-bound books to more experimental layouts. Their work can be collected in a single, collaborative book, a newspaper, or in individual journals.
PUBLIC ART
Working collaboratively, students transform their ideas into a single large-scale, site-specific artwork like a sculpture, a mosaic, or a mural.
PUPPETRY
This art form truly allows for the introduction of performing, literary, and visual arts within a single project. It is highly adaptable to curriculum, age, and developmental needs, and students love their puppet friends! Students make puppets with paper, glue, fabric, and a range of decorative materials. They also learn to write a story for their characters and put on a puppet show for an audience.
SCULPTURE / 3D DESIGN
Students learn to build such three-dimensional projects as architectural models, inflatables, sculptures, and interactive artwork with materials like papier-mâché, wood, and styrofoam.
