Become a BAC Teaching Artist

BAC Arts in Education (AIE) provides a wide array of programming for students, teachers, parents and community members in digital, literary, performing and visual arts. Our collaborative process allows for personalized programming, enriching hands-on experiences and enhanced depth of knowledge. We instill skills and positive attitudes about the arts that are designed to be retained for a lifetime.

BAC’s AIE programs strive to enhance the study of all art forms in our schools while supporting artists in their contribution to the culture of our community.

We seek teaching artists that can demonstrate artistic excellence, professional experience and teaching ability, and are well-versed in at least one of the following disciplines:

• Digital Media & Technology

• Literary Arts

• Performing Arts (Dance, Music, Theater Arts)

• Visual Arts

• Multi-disciplinary Arts

SELECTION PROCESS
The Arts in Education team reviews applications bi-annually (August & February). Submissions are accepted year round. Applicants are selected based on the following criteria:

Artistic Excellence

• Quality and scope of artist’s work

• Depth of knowledge of a discipline

• Demonstrated commitment to on-going professional growth

Teaching Ability

• Substantial experience in NYC public school classrooms

• Cares deeply about nurturing young people

• Ability to incorporate the creative process

• Ability to teach the discipline and make connections between and among other curricula areas

• Commitment to incorporating the NYS Learning Standards in the Arts and the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts into lesson plans

• Quality of workshop design and content (including lesson plan and assessment process)

• Ability to reach all students based on an understanding of diverse developmental levels

• Knowledge of student learning assessment

• Effective classroom management strategies

Professional Experience and collaborative planning skills

• Understanding of each site’s needs (schools, after school programs and community-based organizations, etc.)

• Ability to plan with others and articulate goals and objectives

• Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with school officials

• Adaptability to varying student populations, school environments and resource availability
