TINA

Mark Rapisarda, 03/11/10

"TINA" the Margaret Thacher acronym, "There Is No Alternative", is a reference to the hegemony of capitalist society.

The large metallic/industrialist bow, was inspired by a conversation with a friend on the predominance of bows in female clothing, and the corresponding symbolism of the bow as present/gift. I thought this motif played nicely along with the Margaret Thacher critique. The bow is made of imposing thick steel, I chose to use haphazard and unstable welds at the center to demonstrate a certain fragility, or possibility for collapse of the current framework.
