Haiti Cultural Exchange
SEEKING ARTIST VOLUNTEERS for From Haiti to Brooklyn: Youth, Arts, Change
In collaboration with Brooklyn For Barack, Haiti Cultural Exchange is holding a series of FREE art workshops every Saturday during the month of May for youth aged 3 - 18 in the following areas:
Haitian Folktales and Songs, Writing and Spoken Word, Haitian Drumming, Video documentary, Photography, Music of Haiti, Haitian Folklore Dance, Painting, Puppet Theater, Book Making, and Haitian Craft Making: masks, flags, musical instruments, kites and more…
In the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Haiti in January, we would like to address the needs of Haitian and Haitian-American youth by providing a creative outlet to express their loss, help them heal, and engage in an exploration of Haitian culture. Our goal is to offer arts activities that will help them cope with the feelings brought about by the earthquake, as well as activities that simply offer a respite and an opportunity to enjoy themselves. We hope to encourage and support the creative expressions of Haitian and Haitian-American youths and in the process, teach effective coping strategies, foster supportive relationships, and help children understand and communicate their feelings.
Please fill out this questionnaire as completely as possible to help us create our workshop schedule. Please return to me by email no later than Monday, April 5th so we can start signing up kids! Thank you!
