New York, NY – July 28th, 2010 - ActNow Foundation, in conjunction with BAMcinématek and NYC Council Member Letitia James, presents the latest edition of its ongoing screening series, ActNow: New Voices In Black Cinema, with the August 27th screening of Legacy, the Tribeca Film Festival favorite and American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Grand Jury Prize Award winning psychological thriller starring movie and television star Idris Elba
Black Ops operative Malcolm Gray (Idris Elba) returns home after a botched mission in Eastern Europe. Holed up in a Brooklyn motel room, he is torn between retribution and personal salvation as he mentally unravels. When the walls close in, his story may be all he can leave behind.
Also Executive Produced by Elba, this gripping drama directed by young British-Nigerian filmmaker Thomas Ikimi is the talk of the independent film world having been screened to sold-out international film festival audiences since its early 2010 debut. With ActNow’s special screening, Legacy will finally be shown for the first time to a general American audience.
“We’re very excited about having the Brooklyn premiere of such a provocative film,” notes Aaron Ingram, Executive Director of ActNow. He continues, “Bringing innovative cinema by new and talented filmmakers to the public is what New Voices is all about.”
