eminent domain, nyc – Brooklyn walking tour on Saturday, December 8th at 2 pm
Brooklyn Bridge Promenade @ Pierrepont Street, Brooklyn Heights
As part of her ongoing eminent domain, nyc project the artist Bettina Johae will lead the following bike tour of selected sites of condemnation in Brooklyn. The walking tour starts at the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and will end at the Atlantic Yards in Prospect Heights. On the way the use of eminent domain for the creation of the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, the Brooklyn Civic Center/Cadman Plaza Urban Renewal Project, NYCHA housing projects such as the Farragut Houses, the Fort Greene Slum Clearance Title 1 Project, the planned Willoughby Square Park, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and the just opened Barclay Center and the planned Atlantic Yards project will be discussed.
The walking tour will be held in conjunction with an exhibition of Bettina Johae's eminent domain, nyc project at The Law Office of Sergio Muñoz Sarmiento. The tour will end at a local bar with the possibility to further discuss the issue of eminent domain in Brooklyn over a drink.
