"The Face of Brooklyn" is a new project that aims to capture the variety and vibrancy of the residents of New York's most populous borough at the beginning of a new century.

The resulting portraits will be gifted both to the residents that participate and become part of the Brooklyn Historical Society's archives. The pictures will be exhibited in March 2009 along with the other original works being created for the Interpreting Brooklyn Project, which includes writers, artists, and directors whose work is inspired by the Brooklyn Historical Society's collection. "The Face of Brooklyn" presents people in as they present themselves-- the unmanipulated photographs and blank background leave the focus on the details of the subject. Each subject volunteered on the spot; the spontaneity of the moment is captured, contrasting the formality of portraiture with the naturalness of everyday life in progress.

Progress and resulting portraits can be viewed at the Face of Brooklyn Blog : Face of Brooklyn Blog
