On June 4th, 7pm at 20 Jay St, Ste 1010 in DUMBO the participants of Apogee and NY Writers Coalition's Writing in the Margins will read their work. Writing in the Margins is an eight week workshop that explores the politics of identity and social justice in, and through, creative writing.
Apogee Writing & Activism Workshop Series is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC).
Apogee is a literary journal specializing in art and literature that engage with issues of identity politics: race, gender, sexuality, class, and hyphenated identities. We currently produce a biannual issue featuring fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual art. Our goal is to publish exciting work that interrogates the status quo, providing a platform for unheard voices, including emerging writers of color.
About NY Writers Coalition:
NY Writers Coalition Inc. (NYWC) provides free creative writing workshops throughout New York City for people from groups that have been historically deprived of voice in our society. We also publish our workshop participants’ writing and organize public readings of their work. Writing with others in an atmosphere of respect and acceptance, participants discover the value of their own stories, gain confidence and a stronger sense of self and become less isolated from themselves and from society.
