RED WEDNESDAY follows a family’s lasting trauma from a political revolution to one that is cultural, as different generations make sense of how their respective actions have affected each other and their different understandings of freedom. Confessions of unrest, reformation, decadence, and loss conspire to provide conclusive evidence of the glamor of an era that is dying and the valor of a new age that is emerging. Inspired by the controversial story of Sadegh Ghotbzadeh, Iran's Foreign Minister during the 1979 hostage crisis, the production pays special attention to those left to clean up the mess when we blow each other up.
*spoken text in this production also includes phrases and passages from historical transcripts, interviews and other primary sources along with original contributions by Sam Corbin, Joe Dimuzio, Layla Khoshnoudi, Rohan Kymal and Jason Yamas.
Supported by the Brooklyn Arts Council and developed through the generous support of Laguardia Performing Arts Center, The Drama League and The New Ohio Theatre.
