The Unwinding Destiny Project re-employs broken shells from all the eggs I consume over time. After the shells are soaked the inner layer is peeled away. The dry crumbling skin, along with the shells that I tattoo with text, and all the remaining crushed eggshells, make up this work.
I set up scenes, rearrange the tattooed eggshells in various environments, and photograph them. Here are some of the delicate works photographed indoors, in the sand, and underground.
This project is based on the weight, fragility, and impact of words: traces of messages that are repeated, cryptic, direct or unspoken. Words which leave their impression often long after we hear or read something.
These private and/or public messages may or may not be true. But it effects how we behave, the actions we take, or don't. Does their impact strengthen or wane over time?
Since early on, I've believed so much that has been told to me. Most of us do. Why? And who is the messenger? I'm exploring destiny, free will, beliefs and the power of words to devalue, undermine or empower, and find the truth.
