Ortega y Gasset Projects is pleased to announce an OPEN CALL for our 2017 Summer Artist Residency at OyG.

One artist will be awarded a three-month residency in a 400 sq ft. semi-private studio adjacent to Ortega y Gasset Projects gallery at The Old American Can Factory, from July 2 – September, 2017. The residency will culminate in a solo exhibition in September of 2017 in the main gallery space at OyG, with the studio space still being available to the artist for the duration of the show to work in, bring in guests, artists and curators to discuss the work in the show, and peek into other works in-progress in the adjacent studio space.
The exhibition will be curated by OyG Co-Directors and will include an opening reception and one programmed event (an artist talk or a closing event), and will be promoted on OyG social media outlets.
-active use of the studio space, at least 20 hours/week
-full participation in the installation and deinstallation of the exhibition and all exhibition programming
-flexibility with OyG’s continued use of adjacent spaces and venues
Visual artists of all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Although the studio is offered to the selected artist free of charge, the artist is responsible for finding a place to live during the 3 months of the residency. International artists are encouraged to apply. The selected resident will be responsible for their own materials and supplies. The resident will be selected by the Co-Directors at OyG based on the quality of their work and commitment to their practice.

Please provide us with two references who can talk about your work and practice: name, title/organization, relationship, email address.
ARTIST STATEMENT + PROPOSAL:
Please describe the project you plan to pursue at OyG, how that relates to your current body of work, and how that project would translate into a solo exhibition (500 words max).

Ortega y Gasset Projects is an artist-run gallery founded in 2013, located within the Old American Can Factory building in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn. OACF is a 24-hour access building accessible by the D, R, N, W, F, G trains. For more information about OyG click here.
