Brooklyn Art Cluster is an art organization committed to building creative environments for curators and artists alike. We focus on supporting collaborations between curators and artists to share inspirations and expand networks for the development of their works and career. Our two locations offer artist residency and curatorial programs, long-term workspaces, exhibitions and various art projects with 18 work studios, a gallery and a project space.
RESIDENCY PROGRAM GUIDELINES
We currently offer a 3-month Studio Program with Group Exhibition Opportunity and a 6-month International Residency + Solo Exhibition Program. Both programs are open to international and US-based visual artists working in all media.
STUDIO PROGRAM + Group Exhibition Opportunity (3-MONTH TERM)
This 3-month program focuses on practices within the studio for the development of a new body of work as well as forming connections and networking with art professionals in the New York area. Studio program artists will have studio visits with curators, critics, gallerists and art instructors. The studio program also offers program artists the opportunity to participate in group exhibitions at BAC’s exhibition space, The Cluster Gallery, open studio events as well as both online and offline promotions.
INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY + SOLO EXHIBITION PROGRAM (6-MONTH TERM)
This 6-month program offers each artist a unique opportunity to have a solo show curated by a New York-based curator at our exhibition space, The Cluster Gallery. BAC’s list of guest curators will join in the selection process through which we pair each individual artist with the curator who will be organizing his or her show. The program will focus on developing an artist’s body of work, preparing a solo show and building collaborative relationships with art professionals. Over the course of the program, each artist will also have studio visits, open studios, gallery and museum tours as well as other opportunities elaborated below.
Programs start in January, April, July and October of each year. Artists can participate for up to one year by enrolling in two consecutive 6-month sessions.
PROGRAM FEES Artists are responsible for a program fee of $3,000 for the three-month Studio Program and $6,000 for the six-month International Residency + Solo Exhibition Program. We encourage selected artists to apply to other sources of funding for financial support, and will be happy to provide an official invitation or recommendation letter as needed to selected artists who are applying to outside funds.
Note: The studio is a workspace only. Artists are responsible for their own housing. Those who may need additional funding and support for housing accommodations should apply to other supplemental sources.
The artist will be responsible for providing all the equipment or materials needed for projects created throughout the duration of the residency.
