“Everything you have is yours?” by Hadar Ahuvia
(BkSD Artist in Residence)
Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18
Post-show conversation on Friday, Nov. 17 facilitated by Ali Rosas-Salas
“Everything you have is yours?” was a question asked of me by Israeli embassy security when I went to renew my Israeli passport. I continue to ask myself this question as I consider my relationship to land, heritage and recognize my privilege to move and travel freely.
“Everything you have is yours?” investigates the construction of Israeliness through Israeli folk dance. It asks how Zionism is enacted through gestures appropriated from Palestinian, Druze and Jewish Arab communities. The question begins in Israel-Palestine and emerges in the USA, where not only Israeli and Jewish dancers, but Christian Zionists continue to reshape the gestures and reenact dispossession in their pursuit ‘authentic national’ ritual. On November 17th and 18th we present our end of residency showing at BkSD.
