Walkie Talkie Dream Garden is a new interactive soundwalk created for the Williamsburg waterfront by composer Dafna Naphtali.
Part I will launch September 15th, with a kick-off event to meet the artist and creators and go on an artist-escorted walk.
Walkie Talkie Dream Garden is experienced via a free iOS and Android app with location-specific music by Naphtali, and powered by U-GRUVE AR (Audio Augmented Reality) by creative technologist Richard Rodkin, and audio mixing by Sascha von Oertzen.
Walk, run, ride or listen on the passing ferry to experience the sounds of the Williamsburg Brooklyn waterfront. Hear historical and imagined soundscapes, juxtaposed with vocal pieces to recreate the former Bushwick Creek, trainyards from Williamsburg’s industrial past, and playground equipment whimsically transformed into percussion, and a giant marimba. The Walkie Talkie Dream Garden app uses geo-tagged audio files related to the physical location where they are heard, to underscore and amplify sounds we often overlook including short electroacoustic compositions (created from recordings made on-site), and vocal and choral pieces inspired by the surroundings. These sounds are all played back and altered by the physical (GPS) location of participants who walk, run or ride, listening over headphones. Once the app is downloaded, the soundwalk can be experienced on-site exclusively in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY.
Part I of Walkie Talkie Dream Garden (from Bushwick Inlet Creek North 15th street to North 7th, from Kent street to the water and into the river to be experienced from passing ferries. Part II will be completed and announced in late Fall 2019.
