Textile Arts Center's Artist in Residence (TAC AIR) program equips artists and designers with resources and skills to better develop and articulate their artistic practices. Through TAC AIR, residents are able to advance their work, actively pursue their career ambitions, foster connections within the textile art community and share their knowledge outside of the studio walls. TAC AIR combines studio access with a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum, regular critical dialogue and mentorship, providing residents an opportunity to learn and explore the textile medium, and an alternative to traditional higher education programs. The residency culminates in a group exhibition produced and hosted by TAC.
The 8 artists for Cycle 12 of the AIR program will be selected by a jury of TAC staff and professionals working in different fields of textile arts. Cycle 11 runs from October 2020-June 2021.
TAC AIR Program Provides:
Individual studio space
24-hour access to TAC studio and equipment
Technical classes in techniques including weaving, spinning, machine knitting, and surface design
Seminars in textile history, modern craft theory, and professional development (e.g. grant writing, art law, material sourcing)
Critiques and Mentorship with professional designers and fiber artists
