Living Image Arts provides a vital opportunity for New Yorks most talented artists to develop new work, cultivate relationships with other remarkable theater professionals and to realize a shared artistic vision in production. We are committed to creating new work and a vital community of collaborative artists, and are proud of our growing tradition of artistic excellence and high production value.
Our mission is to:
create compelling and innovative new work
foster the development of diverse and distinctive voices
provide a supportive and sustainable artistic home for professional artists
strengthen and expand the ongoing collaboration between the artists and the public we serve
contribute to the growth of theater as a living and relevant art form
Our programs include:
Workshop Reading Series-A developmental program designed to help playwrights create and refine new work, culminating in staged readings and production.
Workshop Production-A week-long production of a new work in development.
Mainstage Production in The Kirk Theater at Theatre Row-The world premier of a new full-length play that has been in development with LIA for 6 months.
Annual Festival of One-Act Plays in The Lion Theater at Theatre Row-This spring series began in 2005 at Theatre Row with How To Lose Your Lover in 6 short plays. Since then the festival has featured the collaborative efforts of over one hundred artists and the world premier of over a dozen new plays. The festival includes the production of new plays as well as a staged reading series of new works.
Associated Artist Program-Outstanding Artists who have been selected to work with LIA for the season.
Professional TheaterLab-A Bi-weekly Laboratory for writers, actors and artists to share, develop and create new work.
Out-of-State Retreat-A working retreat to Newfane, Vermont focusing on the development of upcoming work.
Living Vision Initiative-An artist outreach program that will help us fulfill our vision of a vital artistic community and ensure that we are always addressing its needs.
