I am a Brooklyn percussionist with 20 years of deep involvement with the traditional drum music of Haiti.
I have been traveling to Haiti since the early 1990s to learn the intricate and powerful Vodou drum repetoire. I speak fluent Kreyol, and am very involved in the Haitian music community in NYC. I was a founding member of the Haitian jazz group Mozayik, and have performed and recorded with many great artists from Haiti including Emeline Michel & Wyclef Jean. In November 2008 I released "Tanbou nan Lakou Brooklyn/Haitian Drums in the Brooklyn Yard" which reached #3 on the JazzWeek world music charts. I currently lead the Haitian roots/jazz quartet "Lakou Brooklyn", our live recording "Equinox" is out on Soundkeeper Recordings.
