My works on paper are figurative, narrative and psychological. The foundation of my work stems from my experiences growing up in two cultures, American and Chinese: I learned to navigate between not only two distinct sets of social conventions and languages but two worldviews.
I focus on issues of socialization, and usually its more problematic aspects. A cast of characters, mostly women and girls, engage in disquieting behavior. The work is something between drawing and painting; they are not direct projections of the mind but instead slowly emerge. I have to find my way to the image.
