Robert Melzmuf

Log-in to Favorite

I identify my paintings as painterly colorfield abstraction.
I want my work to be spacious, airy, and free with simple and direct compositions clearly marked by my hand.
It is the colorfield painters, particularly Olitzky, Poons, Dzubas, Boxer, Louis, and Diebenkorn who have helped me to develop ideas of pictorial space; its depths and its volumes, and how gesture shapes that space, enhances its rhythms and movements around and across the picture space.
