Sarah Alden, a Brooklyn, New York resident, is an avid performer and community educator of many folk traditions. Sarah performs with the Luminescent Orchestrii, Hoppin John Stringband has worked with Dan Zanes, Astrograss. She has toured and taught internationally, hosting workshops in traditional folk music. As curator, Alden co-organizes The Balkan Shout Out, a yearly benefit for the Eastern European Folklife Center. Alden earned her degree from Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music and has traveled to Eastern Europe, The balkans, and the Appalachian region of the United States to study and collect traditional folk music. Sarah currently teaches with The Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music.
My mission as an artist is to to create a space where people have the permission to experience bountiful joy, connectedness, something thrilling and something fun. To create music that is unbelievably dense and thick music and teeters from chaotic to angelic.
Ms. Alden has 10 years experience working as a teaching artist in New York City. She has taught after-school programs focusing on Suzuki Method, American history through music, music theory, violin performance and singing. As well led master classes, group lessons and private lessons from 5 year olds to adults all across the world.
