Cat Del Buono

Cat Del Buono is the daughter of Italian immigrants. She received a BA from Boston College, an MFA from School of Visual Arts, and attended the NYU graduate film program. Trained as a photographer and filmmaker, she creates video installations and public happenings that focus on social issues. Her inspiration comes from the latest discussions and issues circulating on social media and the web. Del Buono deliberately simplifies issues such as gender bias and inequality by exaggerating the obvious. She has found that using humor can be an effective method in the attempt to break down complex topics such as society’s arbitrary beauty standards and rape culture. And on the opposite end, showing the disturbing reality of these issues can also make a big impact. Whether working with multi-channel video installation, video satire, performance, street art, or social practice art, her goal is to encourage change and influence society to move beyond the status quo.
